A cantora/compositora Joni Mitchell autora de “Woodstock”, nos anos 70, flertou com o jazz. Se juntou a Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock e outros em alguns discos. Fez uma homenagem a Mingus, colocando letra em algumas de suas canções no LP “Mingus”. Foi o último projeto de Mingus que morreria meses depois.
